BLOOM JOY

Psychotherapy, LLC

Welcome

I’m so happy you’re here, taking this courageous step of caring for your mental health. My name is Miriah Emmett and I am the founder of Bloom Joy, a private practice in Raleigh, North Carolina that offers individual and family therapy to address mental health concerns, interpersonal conflict, family relationships, and behavioral health concerns. I opened Bloom Joy in 2024, with the hope of expanding care for clients so that you can have a say in your treatment and mental health journey. Like plants and the many things we find in nature, our mental health requires nurturing, attention, compassion, and kindness; and also like the many things we find in nature, without struggle we cannot grow, adapt, and learn. My goal is to work with you, regardless of what life has thrown your way, to turn your own struggles into something beautiful and to foster resilience in the face of adversity. I’m excited for our journey together, to bloom and find joy again.

About Me

My name is Miriah Emmett (she/her/hers) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Work Associate. I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Psychology, Child & Adolescent Development, and Family Relationships in 2020 from Arizona State University. I went on to get my Masters in Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill, and graduated in May 2023. My clinical experience is extensive, having worked in school social work, intensive outpatient & day treatment for children and adolescents with behavioral health concerns, and residential and inpatient treatment for adults and adolescents with eating disorders. I have worked with a variety of presentations of mental health including but not limited to anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, personality disorder diagnoses, eating disorders, and PTSD. A particular area of interest of mine is working with caregivers for children and adolescents with a chronic illness, substance abuse issues, and eating disorders.

With my clients, I take a person-centered approach and am compassionately direct while also meeting you with where you are at. I am a process-based therapist and utilize a variety of evidence-based modalities including DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), Solution Focused techniques, MI (motivational interviewing), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and trauma focused interventions when appropriate.

Why Choose Private Pay?

Similarly to other healthcare settings, some therapists are paneled with insurance companies so that your visits are covered, while others may choose to accept private pay. When therapists are paneled with insurance you may owe your typical co-pay (similar to what you might pay for a routine doctor’s visit), or mental health services might be under a “specialist co-pay”. Additionally, for some insurance plans you might be required to hit your deductible before insurance pays for anything—this might be when someone is considering going the private pay route.

Although I accept insurance, some clients may still choose to self-pay. Choosing private-pay might be the right decision for you for a few reasons. When therapists are paneled with insurance, it is required that the therapist submits a diagnosis after the first session and insurance typically has requirements for treatment planning, session frequency, and the number or sessions that are covered. Depending on your diagnosis and treatment, insurance can also stop covering sessions based on treatment updates and session notes provided by the clinician. Additionally, the diagnosis becomes a part of your health record which could impact future needs such as life insurance, health insurance coverage, disability coverage, and in some cases can increase insurance rates. For some folks, this might be a factor to consider before choosing between a therapist covered by insurance or selecting to go with private pay. For people who choose private pay, they often do so due to the freedom, control, and flexibility that private pay allows. This means that you have more of a say in your therapeutic experience in regard to treatment goals, frequency of sessions, and exploration of therapeutic approaches without the constraints of insurance. Last, if you should choose to go with private pay, I can provide you with an invoice to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. If you would like to chat more about this, we can do so during our consult session.

Selecting between private pay and in-network providers can be a very difficult decision to make. My goal is to make sure you are aware of your options to assist you in making the most informed decision for you or your child’s care. At this time, I offer private pay and I accept Aetna insurance.
